A big part of the institutional transition from Synagogue 2000 (S2K) to Synagogue 3000 (S3K) was bringing the organization into the 21st Century. Technology changes from 1994 (the beginning of S2K) to the present have been staggering. S2K functioned in a world still dependent on paper publishing to disseminate information. S3K functions in a world where information is available and expected immediately. It is with that shift in mind that S3K designed this website.

S3K’s website is resource based. We have accumulated a huge database of information over the last 15+ years, not least of which the S2K curriculum. This curriculum, originally designed to facilitate synagogue transformation in a guided, four-year process, is now free for anyone who wishes to use it. Designed by the brightest minds in liturgy, sacred space, welcoming, and Jewish education, the curriculum materials, when printed, are a massive 1000+ pages. We discovered that while our original S2K cohorts worked the curriculum in a planned process, it works equally well ala carte. Find the areas that interest you and explore the materials. Don’t be afraid to experiment, and let us know about your successes.

In addition to the curriculum, we have amassed a number of articles pertaining to synagogue life also written by the brightest minds in synagogue transformation. The site is designed for easy access to material, either by category or topic area. Use the search bar at the top of each page, or just browse through the Resources section or Infowarehouse (tags).

One important set of resources are S3K’s Reports – academic research from the Synagogue Studies Institute whose topics are informed by the issues we know are important and topical to synagogue life. And like all our content, we want to know what you have to say. Be sure to regularly check Synablog, where we discover more about the topics on our website.

Another important resource that we have included on our website is other web-based information. Our Web Feed is a list of aggregated content about synagogue, filtered by an array of keywords to weed out general information and be specific to synagogue related information. Our ‘Shout out’ section includes information of special interest from both our S3K partner synagogues and the Jewish community at large.

We hope you will find this website full of information that is easily accessible and easily usable. Please visit often as the content changes regularly. And do not hesitate to make suggestions of content, usability, and we always appreciate kvelling!

Thanks for visiting,

Rabbi Aaron Spiegel
and the whole Synagogue 3000 team

Our special thanks to our partners at Talance, the developers of the S3K website and our companions in the quest for synagogue excellence.
